Instruments programme
The Netherlands is known worldwide for the quality of its space instruments. To maintain and further expand our leading position, we invest in promising, innovative technology for new space missions. We do this through the Instrument Program.
With this program, we encourage parties in the Netherlands to develop instruments for space travel. This concerns instrument technology in the broadest sense, such as detectors, antennas, mirrors, and electronics; all hardware that takes measurements from space.
Why space instruments?
Space instruments provide useful information. Focused on space, space instruments contribute to our fundamental knowledge of planets and the universe. They can also play a role in space weather research and space situational awareness. Focused on Earth, space instruments provide valuable data on air quality, sea level rise, land use, and more. This data forms the basis for useful satellite applications.
The Netherlands has a long tradition in developing space instruments. This has resulted in unique capabilities and expertise that are worth maintaining, strengthening, and expanding, both economically and socially.
In short:
- The Instruments Programme stimulates the development of space instruments.
- Companies and institutions in the Netherlands can submit a proposal.
- The needs and requirements of instrument users are leading.
- The Instruments Programme supports projects between TRL4 and TRL6 (Technological Readiness Level).
- When a new funding round opens, it will be announced on this page.
