Knowledge networks
With the Knowledge Networks programme, we bring together knowledge and expertise to prepare for future space missions. We stimulate technological innovation, tailored to the scientific, societal, and commercial needs of our country. This strengthens the Netherlands’ position in international space research.
Smarter together
Space provides crucial data for astronomy, planetary science, and research on our own planet. This leads to new knowledge about water and air quality, ground movements, natural disasters, and the Earth’s climate. It also provides knowledge about our solar system and planets orbiting stars other than our own sun.
The Netherlands plays a leading role in various themes in space research. We owe this success to years of investment and intensive, multidisciplinary collaboration. Scientists, technology developers, and users jointly develop relevant and groundbreaking space instruments and then aim to utilize them optimally for scientific research.
Knowledge networks promote collaboration in:
- astronomy
- planetary research
- earth observation
The Knowledge Networks Scheme falls under the Partnerships for Space Instruments & Applications Preparatory Programme (PIPP). Each knowledge network consists of a knowledge partner with demonstrated expertise, supplemented by companies, civil society organizations, government bodies, and/or users. Any partner with relevant knowledge and experience can participate in one or more Knowledge Networks.
